EOTYG Hair Ideas

Some inspiration for you all...

I like this one--the hairstyle doesn't look too complicated.

Simple.

Gorgeous, but probably too elaborate for me to handle.

Too flapperish?

Rushing out the door

Hi there! Rachel here, and I thought I'd just give you some quick tips for when you really need to rush out the door but still look nice. We all have those days where we just don't want to get out of bed, and when you finally do you only have like 15 minutes to get ready. So here are my quick tips (if you want pictures of the makeup or outfit or hair or anything just comment :) )

So first, outfit tips:
First, on a day when you are shopping, make sure to look for a T-shirt that will look good with a jean jacket, any jean jacket and get one. I have a few of these, and honestly, they are LIFE savers. So what I like to do for my outfit for quick look nice is
-grab one of those T-shirts
-add a jean jacket for quick style
-maybe a gold necklace or bracelet or something
-if you have time, put in nice earrings
-jeans or jean capri pants, preferably ones that match your jean jacket
-boots; brown or black are best

Second, hair:
I have long hair, so if you have short hair, my apologies cause these tips might be better for long hair :) First, make sure you put your hair in braids or a bun every night so that if something happens in the morning, you don't absolutely HAVE to brush your hair. Braids are usually best.
-Take your hair out of the bun or braid
-If you have time, brush your hair, but you don't have to
-You can let your hair loose, or put your hair in a high ponytail, both ways look good with the outfit
-Add a bandanna, red ones are best, they often look good with jean jackets
Done!

Third, makeup:
I honestly prefer the natural look any day, so I will be giving suggestions for natural looking makeup.
-I always begin with the foundation, so first apply it. I have a powder foundation, which goes on very quickly, but your might take longer. If you are really short on time, you might want to just put foundation on the trouble spots of your face
-If you have time, add blush, but this is definitely not a necessary step
-Eyeshadow, once again, you only want to do this if you have time. I personally LOVE the natural look and I strongly suggest Luminous Lights by Maybelline (by the way, I ADORE Maybelline products, if you haven't tried them you really should). Luminous Lights is natural but it's really nice
-Mascara, and I suggest Great Lash mascara. If you're a swimmer like me, and you need to use waterproof mascara, ABSOLUTELY use Great Lash's, it doesn't smear at all in the water, and it looks almost just like regular mascara
-Lipgloss (if you're in a hurry, a stick can make a mess if you're just trying to apply it quickly). If you're looking for a more natural, I like 'peppermint scented lip gloss' I think I got at Claires, but if you want a more bright reddish kind, I suggest CoverGirl's wetslicks fruit spritzers watermelon.

And that's it! I wear this style a lot, and if any of you want pictures of the makeup, the outfit, the hair, or anything, just comment and I'll make sure to take some :)

Curly Hair Shower Routine

Hellooo beautiful people! Hadiah here, I decided I didn't want to do my math homework so TA DA here is a night in the life of my hair :D. I actually only wash my hair about every 3 or 4 days. I know that sounds kind of nasty to some of you but it works for my hair and keeps it from drying out an insane amount. A website called Naturally Curly has been a life saver for me and I recommend checking it out.

Most every day I am not going somewhere (and even some days I do go places), my hair stays in a french braid. Its quick, easy, out of my face and doesn't give me a headache like ponytails sometimes do.

My next step is just taking out the braid and my hair sometimes looks like this xD.

Next I (sometimes) finger comb my hair and then look like a lion.

In the shower I'm using very VERY basic products right now but they actually work just fine. I take shampoo, apply it to my scalp only, massage my head with my finger tips in circular motions, and then rinse. After that I saturate my hair in conditioner all over and let it sit for the rest of my shower. At the end I rinse with cold water if I remember, hot if I don't.

When I get out of the shower I wring out all the water I can from my hair with my hands and then wrap my hair in a t-shirt. Microfiber towels are the expensive version of this but so far I haven't forked out the money.

Before I apply any product my hair looks like this

Right now I use a combination of these 3 products on my wet hair. If you have curly hair like me I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend EverCurl leave-in conditioner from L'oreal, it works so so so well. The got2be crazysleek is meant for straightening corse hair but I use it for smoothing fly aways. The Fructis leave in conditioner is a cheaper version of EverCurl and still works so that is another option.

*deep ragged breathing* OK we're done! Here is a wet hair no makeup selfie to show my hair after I apply product. Blessings be yours in abundance,
-Hadiah

I Am Not Beautiful

I desperately want to be valued.
To be coddled, pampered, complimented, treated like a queen.

But is that really what being valued means?

I tend to over-think everything.  And so when the conversation went like this, "You're beautiful!"
"No I'm not, I'm Maddie," my head went haywire.

Who am I, really?
That joking comment--"No I'm not, I'm Maddie"--started a deep soul searching in a quest to find what I truly should want to be identified as.  I want people to tell me I'm beautiful, to let me know that they notice me and they can see something about me that's good.

But then I realized I don't want that.  I don't want to be known for only my face or my body.  I'm not beautiful.  I'm Maddie.  I'm not tall.  I'm not skinny or fat.  I'm not some winged eyeliner or flawless foundation.

I'm Maddie.

I am hundred swirling thoughts and spectrum of actions and emotions.  I am the girl who is still struggling to find her place and her calling, who is trying to deal (unsuccessfully) with loneliness and worry.  I am a scattering of klutzy actions and foolish words escaping from my lips.  But I am also the fiercely protective older sister, the responsible daughter, the dancer twirling her heart out.  My life is a thousand contradictions and oxymorons, and I realized, that's what makes me truly me.

I don't mind being called beautiful.  But I will choose what defines me, and what defines me has nothing to do with the way I look.

I am not beautiful.  I'm Maddie.  And really, that's the most beautiful thing I can be.

Haute Couture Week: Day 2

Monday of Haute Couture week kicked off strong with bold prints from Giambattista Valli.  Personally, I love this collection; while still keeping the trademark spring florals, it stays away from the too-quickly cliche pastels.

Following the Valli collection was Alexis Mabille AND OMG THE BUTTERFLIES.  I love the continuity from the backdrop to the headpieces.

Up next, the ever-classy Dior.  Timeless or mod?  You decide.

But, staying true to the spring pastels, Georges Hobeika.  I'm in love with the pale blue one.  And the yellow dress.  And the pink skirt.  And maybe just all of it.

And, finally, Schiaparelli.  I salute them for pushing the boundaries of everyday fashion and bringing art into everyday life.

But I wouldn't wear these, at least not in public.

Stay tuned for Tuesday's post on fashion week.

Stay lovely ladies.

The pastels and rich blues of this collection contrast nicely with last season's colors, which, to be fair, was mainly sparkles.

Left and right: Versace Fall/Winter 2013-2014

Paris Couture Week has kicked off with Versace and will follow with more designers and more collections.  Which designer are you most looking forward to seeing?
